History of the Tiger II
The Tiger II, commonly known as the King Tiger or Königstiger, was Germany’s heaviest operational tank of World War II. Introduced in 1944, it combined the thick armor of the Tiger I with the sloped protection of the Panther, making it one of the most formidable armored fighting vehicles of its era. Armed with the powerful 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 cannon, it could engage enemy tanks at remarkable distances. Although produced in relatively small numbers and limited by fuel shortages and mechanical complexity, the Tiger II remains one of the most studied and recognizable tanks in military history.
Popular topics surrounding the Tiger II include the Battle of Normandy, the Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge), Eastern Front operations, armored warfare, military museums, scale modeling, historical documentaries, and popular World War II strategy and simulation games.
